Raaz 3 Takes Horror Genre To Another Level

Raaz 3 has taken the horror genre to another level as it clocked up a huge 55 crore nett first week and is sure to cross the 75 crore nett mark considering the weekdays were rock steady and the only noticeable drop came on Thursday. The only other time that the horror genre has succeeded in such a way was ten years back when the first part of Raaz garnered a 15-16 crore distributor share but that success was on back of the super hit music which was a craze at that time. The horror genre is a good bet for non star cast films but its tough for it to put up big numbers as a large chunk of the audience does not go for horror films.

Prior to Raaz 3 no horror film had even touched the 30 crore nett mark and this film is looking to cross 75 crore nett which is phenomenal for the genre. The all India distributor share of Raaz 3 will easily be higher than films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Cocktail and Rockstar despite it being a smaller film.

Without trying to sound monotonous we can’t help but start by saying that – As expected and predicted- This Friday’s Anurag Basu directed, Priyanka-Ranbir starrer, BARFI!, has embarked on a good start at the multiplexes across India (75-80 percent)!

In some cases, the opening is excellent (90-95 percent). What weighs heavily in favour of BARF! is the fact that apart from Metros and 'A' centers, the film has done exceedingly well even at the multiplexes and single screens of mid-sized towns. The first day is expected to be in the range of 9-10 crore, and is likely to get better as the weekend progresses.

Meanwhile last Friday’s Vikram Bhatt directed Bipasha-Emraan starrer, RAAZ 3, continued its winning run, even during the weekdays, and ended up netting 55 crore (to be validated) from India. RAAZ 3 has not only surpassed the entire run of previous Emraan’s solos (MURDER 2 and JANNAT 2) in just a week, but it has almost equaled one of his highest grossers, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI (co-starring Ajay Devgn). The film is on way to be the first solo super-hit of Emraan Hashmi’s career.

Ending with Salman-Katrina’s EK THA TIGER, the film added more than 4 crore during its latest run, taking the net total to 198 crore in four weeks from India. The Kabir Khan directed film is all set to cross the 200 crore mark this week, only the second film apart from Aamir Khan's 3 IDIOTS to do so!

BARFI!: Anurag Basu has indeed got a hit on his hands

It seems that every aspiring actor should have a stint as an assistant director or undergo some form of assistance to understand the craft of cinema and internalize the process of training that he or she gets while being associated in an assistant category. This is particularly true in case of Ranbir Kapoor whose stint as an assistant director with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in BLACK served as a valuable reference point in interpreting the character that he played in BARFI!.

BARFI! relives the memories and the nuances belonging to the era of Charlie Chaplin and gives the simplest message of being simple in approach to life and to love selflessly. It is a real mirror for the present day society which has become so much individualistic that he neither has the time nor the inclination to understand the feelings of another person.

Here are two individuals, who have physical deformities but they rise above the deformities to go to the maximum extent possible for their love, and both Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra have lived the parts that they have enacted.

BARFI! is a telling comment on the silence that has enveloped relationships, though we are surrounded by sounds and points out to the fact that a relationship does not need the crutches of vocal faculties to take it to a logical conclusion.  In the present times when options to play with sounds has become so much manifest the character played by Ranbir Kapoor is able to etch out his feelings without relying on the vocal faculties and it marks the arrival of Ranbir Kapoor as a performer in a big way. In the same manner Priyanka Chopra has been able to bring out the autism in stark relief and has totally obliterated the element of sexuality associated with her persona and has given a performance of the life time. The emotions that Priyanka Chopra has expressed through her eyes, in a way underlines that the eyes indeed are the voice of the heart. Saurabh Shukla as an affable police inspector is endearing.

Anurag Basu indeed has got a hit on his hands with BARFI, and it is also going to sweep the awards as well, when they are announced. The lilting taste of BARFI! would continue to tingle the taste buds and the emotional faculties for a long time to come, and being a BARFI! it would not induce incidence of sugar as well.

The two much talked about films Ranbir Kapoor starrer BARFI!, which released today, and Priyadarshan’s KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL, which is all set to hit the screens in two weeks from now i.e. 28th September 2012, may not be on the same plane as they belong to altogether different genre & concept, yet there is a striking resemblance between the two!

Well if we keenly observe, the posters of both the films have almost same feel, ambience, colours and elements (with a slight difference here and there). But what connects the two posters largely is the use of a rooster. Both the posters have a rooster as core element. This in a way indicates that the story is set in a small-town or village and has a mass appeal!

While BARFI!, which comes from UTV Motion Pictures stable, has got thumbs up from critics and audiences alike, all eyes are now set on Percept Picture Company’s comic caper KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL, which promises a fun-ride!

केही महिना अघि लुट हेरेपछी नेपाली चलचित्र क्षेत्रको उन्नति हुँदै रैछ भनेर खुशि भएको थिए। लगातार केही चलचित्रहरू आए गए कोहि छाप छोड्लान जस्तै गरि आए अनि हल्काफुल्का हल्ला गर्दै गए पनि। त्यहि भेलमा अपबादको पनि पाइला पर्यो। अपबादको चर्चा परिचर्चा सर्वत्र हुन थाल्यो। मन त थियो पहिलो सो मै हेरिहालु तर कारनबस १-२ दिन गर्दागर्दै ९ओउ दिनमा हेर्ने साइत जुर्यो। यो बिचमा कयौ समिक्षकहरूले  चलचित्र  बारे आ-आफ्नो  समिक्षा  पनि  लेखे  र  बीचारहरू  आदानप्रदान  गरे।  कुनै  पनि  कुराको  राम्रो  नराम्रो  टिकाटिप्पनी  भएझै  यसको  पनि  भयो।  हरेक  चर्चा  पछी  अपबाद एकपटक हेर्नै  पर्ने चलचित्र हो  जस्तो  बनाउदै  गयो  र  कौतुहलता  बढाउदै  गयो।
“inspired from cast away on the moon and into the wild” भन्दै चलचित्रको सुरुवात हुन्छ। पहिलो फ्रेममा  मुख्य पात्र “राज”  आत्महत्या  गरेको  देखाइन्छ।  जब  आँखा खुल्छ उ आफुलाई एस्तो ठाउमा पाउछ जहाँ बाट कहिकतै जाने ठाउँ देखिदैन। उ चिच्याउछ कोही छ कि भन्दै  तर कोही भेट्दैन। न खाने कुरा छ न कोही मान्छे न बस्ने ठाउँ। यसरी चलचित्रको सुरुवात हुन्छ।
सँगसङै “राज” को अतित पनि देखाउन थालिन्छ। चलचित्र बग्दै जाने क्रममा अन्जान ठाउमा राजले गर्ने हरेक कृयाकलाप र उसलाइ आत्महत्या  गर्ने  अतितका  घटनाहरूलाई  parallely देखाइएको  छ। Parallely जाने क्रममा उसले पाएका ज्ञनगुनका कुराहरु, उसको  अब्यक्त  प्रेमकहानीको  भाव,  एउटा  युवाको  इच्छा  र  उसको  परिवारप्रतीको  जिम्मेवारि,  संसार  देखिसकेर  भोगिसकेर  वाक्क भैसकेको एउटा  पुस्ता  र  एउटा  छुट्तै  संसार  देख्ने  आफ्नो रहर  र  इच्छालाई  सम्पुर्ण  ठान्ने  कच्चा  युवापुस्ताको  सोचाइ  बीचको  खाडल  र  तेसले  प्रस्तुत  गर्ने  परिस्थिति,  बिदेशिने  रहर  गरेका  परिवारमा  रिनले  लेराउन  सक्ने  चिन्ता,  जस्ता  कुराहरू  देखाइयेको  छ।  “presentation” हेर्नलाई  चाइ  आफैले  हेर्न  पार्ने  हुन्छ।
राजको  बा  आमाको  पात्र  बन्ने  कलाकारको  कलाकारितामा  प्रश्न उठाउने  ठाउ  देखिदैन  यानी  उनिहरुको  Acting जिवन्त  छ।  प्राय  चलचित्रमा  देखिने  “over expression” र  वाहियात  रोनाधोना  यहा  देख्न  पाइदैन।
राजको  क्यारेक्टर  ठाउठाउमा  एक्द ससक्त छा  जस्तै  घर  फर्कदा  चिया  पहिलो  चुस्की  लिदा  दियेको  expression, “बुख्याचा”  को  अवसानपछीको  expression, आत्महत्या  गर्न  लाग्दाको  कमेडी  expression तर  सँगसंगै  कति  ठाउमा  अझ  बढी  मेहेनत  गर्न  पर्ने देखिन्छ  जस्तै  स्वतन्त्र  हुँदा देखाइने उछलकुदल,  माछा  मार्ने  बेलाको  हाउभाउ,  “बुख्याचा”  सँगको  वार्तालाप  हुँदाको  एक्स्प्रेसन ।  यसरी  भन्नुपर्दा  राजको  क्षेमता  त  छा  तर  १००%  निकाल्न  नसक्नी  डिरेक्टरको  कमजोरी  हो।
निशा  को क्यारेक्टर   जति  दमदार  हुनुपर्ने  हो  तेति छैन। उनको  बलियो पक्ष  खोज्दाखोज्दै  पनि  एउटा  भेटाउन  सकिन।  निशाको  अभिनयले गर्दा  सुनन्दाको पात्र  नभएको  भए  बेसै  हुन्थ्यो  जस्तो  लाग्न  सक्छ  तर  निशा  बिना  राजा  अपुरो  छ किनभने  राजको साहित्य  लेखनिमा  निशा  मुख्य  पात्र  देखाइएको  छ  र  त्यो  पात्र  बिना  साहित्यकार  शायद  त्यो समयमा जन्मन्थेन र  साहित्यको  भूत  बिना  दुई  पुस्ता  बीचको सोचाइमा  देखिएको  अन्तर  देखिन्थेन।  यसरी  भन्दा  निशाको  पात्र  महत्वपुर्न  हुदाहुदै  पनि  तेसलाई  देखाउन  नसक्नु  डिरेक्टरको  कमजोरी  हो  र  पात्रमा  आफूलाई  ससक्त  पार्न  नसक्नु  निशा  को  कमजोरी  हो।
सम्वादको  कुरा  गर्नुपर्दा  निशाको  वाक्य  रटान  मारेझै  लाग्छ भने राजको  पात्रलाई  साहित्यकार  देखायको  कारणले  तर्कसङत पनि देखिन्छ।   हरेक  नेपालि  चलचित्र  हेर्दा  लाग्ने  “English बोल्दा  JPT लाग्ने  र  नेपालि  बोल्दा  लक्ष्मिप्रसादको  आत्मा  पात्रमा  प्रबेश  गरेझै  लाग्ने”  परम्पराबाट  अपबाद  पनि  अपबाद  रहन  सकेको  छैन।
Music, cinematography को  बारेमा  बोल्नु  भन्दा  नबोल्नु  जाति  देखिन्छ।  “In case of Nepali movie industry its not only ordinary but extraordinary, 80% of the frame captured are worth watching which makes you feel something extra”
Loopholes हरू हरेक चलचित्रमा भएझै  यसमा  पनि  कयौ  छन  तर  एतिकैमा  चलचित्रलाई  असफल  भन्न  मिल्दैन।  अरुले  के  भन्छन्  भन्दापनी  चलचित्र  एकपटक  आँफै हेरौ  अनि  मुल्यान्कन  गरौ।  चलचित्रको  केही सिन  Into the Wild र  Cast Away बात  प्रेरित  छन  भने  अतित  र  बर्तमानलाई  parallel लगिने  कथा  127 hrs बात  प्रेरित  देखिन्छ।

काठमाण्डौं, १८  भदौ । सरकारले पेट्रोलियम पदार्थमा भारी मूल्य वृद्धि गरेको छ । आयल निगमको घाटा देखाउँदै सरकारले मूल्य वृद्धि गरेको हो । आइतबार बसेको सञ्चालक समितिको बैठकले प्रति लिटर पेट्रोलमा ५ रुपैयाँ, डिजेल/मटि्टतेलमा ४ रुपैयाँ र प्रति सिलिन्डर ग्यासमा ५५ रुपैयाँ बढाएको हो । यो वृद्धिसँगै काठमाडौं उपत्यकामा प्रतिलिटर पेट्रोल १ सय २५ रुपैयाँ, डिजेल/मटि्टतेल ९७ रुपैयाँ र प्रति सिलिन्डर ग्यास १ हजार ४ सय ७० रुपैयाँ पुगेको छ ।  निगमको हिजो बसेको सञ्चालक समितिको बैठकले शनीबार देखि नै लागू हुनेगरी मूल्यवृद्धि गरेको छ । मूल्यवृद्धिपश्चात् पेट्रोलको मूल्य प्रतिलिटर रु ११६, डिजेल र मट्टितेल प्रतिलिटर रु ८५ र हवाई इन्धनको रु १०९ पुगेको छ । हवाई इन्धनको मूल्य कर्णाली अञ्चलमा भने ९९ रुपैयाँ कायम गरिएको छ । निगमले  बढ्दो घाटा धान्न मूल्य बढाएको जनाएको छ । हाल निगमको मासिक घाटा १ अर्ब १७ करोड ५१ लाख रुपैयाँ छ । मूल्य बढाउनु अघि निगमलाई मासिक एक अर्व ३३ करोड रुपैया घाटा रहेको निगमको जिकिर छ ।
निगमको व्यवस्थापन कमजोरी नसुधारि घाटाको नाममा वारम्वार मूल्य वढाउने सरकारको गैर जिम्मेवारीप्रति सर्वसाधरण आक्रोषित वनेका छन् ।
यस अघि पेट्रोलको भाउ प्रतिलिटर १ सय १६ रुपैयाँं तथा डिजेल र मटि्टतेलको प्रतिलिटर ८५ रुपैयाँं थियो । अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय बजारमा मुल्य बढेपछि निगमलाई घाटा बढेको र आपुर्ति सहज बनाउन मुल्य बढाउनु परेको निगमका प्रवक्ता मुकुन्दप्रसाद ढुङ्गेलले जानकारी दिए ।
अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय बजारमा पेट्रोलियम पदार्थको मूल्यवृद्धि भइरहेकाले आगामी दिनमा यी पदार्थको मूल्य अझ बढ्न सक्ने सम्भावना देखिएको र अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय बजारको तुलनामा नेपाल आयल निगम लाई पेट्रोलियम पदार्थमा मूल्यवृद्धि गर्दापनि निगमले हरेक महिना रु एक अर्ब १८ करोड घाटा व्यहोर्दै आएकामा अहिलेको मूल्यवृद्धिपछि त्यो घाटा रु ८५ करोडमा झर्ने जानकारी दिए ।

राउडी राठोरको धमाकेदार प्रदर्शनको चर्चा सेलाउन नपाउँदै बलिउड अभिनेता अक्षय कुमारको अर्को फिल्म जोकर शुक्रबारदेखि प्रदर्शनमा आएको छ । धेरैले कमेडी ड्रामा टाइपको अक्षयको यो फिल्मले राउडी राठोरकै बाटो समात्ला भन्ने विश्वास गरेका थिए । तर सोनाक्षी सिन्हा र अक्षय कुमार अभिनित जोकरले साँच्चीकै अक्षय कुमारलाई जोकर नै बनाएको छ, अर्थात् जोकर अक्षयको सबैभन्दा फ्लप फिल्म बन्ने बाटोतर्फ अग्रसर भएको छ ।
जोकरले रिलिजको दिनमा भारत र विदेशमा सबै खासै कलेक्सन गर्न नसकेपछि यो फिल्म साँच्चीकै फ्लप हुने अनुमान गरिएको हो । सलमानको टाइगरले तताएको बलिउड फिल्मी बजार जोकरको आगमनसँगै स्वात्तै सेलाउन पुगेको छ ।


शनिवार रिलिज भएको दिनमा जोकरले भारतभर गरेर केवल ५ करोड भारु मात्र कमाउन सफल भएको छ । त्यस्तै दोश्रो दिन शनिवार यो फिल्मले भारतमा साढे ४ करोड कलेक्सन गरेको छ । दुइ दिनमा गरेर देश भित्र र बाहिर गरी जोकरले झण्डै १० करोड मात्र कमाउन सकेको छ । भारतका विभिन्न २२ सय वटा हलमा एकैसाथ जोकर रिलिज भएकोमा फिल्म हलका केवल १५ देखि २० प्रतिशत सिट मात्र भरिएका छन् । रिलिजको दिनमै हलका सबैजसो सिट रित्तै हुन पुगेपछि जोकरले अक्षय र सोनाक्षीलाई मात्र होइन फिल्म निर्माता तथा निर्देशकलाई पनि साँच्चीकै जोकर बनाउने लक्षण देखाएको छ ।
अक्षय कुमार, सिरिस कुन्दर तथा फराह खानले मिलेर बनाएको जोकर फिल्मको निर्माणमा ५० करोड भारु खर्च भएको थियो । तर सुरुवाती दिनको लक्षण हेर्दा जोकरले आफ्नो प्रोडक्सन कस्ट पनि उठाउन मुस्किल पर्ने देखिएको छ ।

KATHMANDU: Aliens and Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) have always been a matter of fascination for humans. Even a slight hint of existence of aliens or UFO’s can attract scientists and media from the world.

Pagalpur — a place between Palanpur and Ratnanagar, which is not even on the map of India — becomes a hub for scientists and media. The reason being the sign of alien’s visit on earth from outer space known as Crop Circle. Like the name of the village, the people are crazy and even their locality is outlandish. They lack electricity, water and more.

Agastya (Akshya Kumar) originally from Pagalpur is a scientist in the US who is doing research on the existence of aliens and civilisation beyond the Earth. And he has a month’s time to prove this before his team. During this time, his brother (Shreyas Talpade) calls from India to return home because his father (Darshan Jariwala), the headman of the village, is seriously ill. Agastya together with his girlfriend Diva (Sonakshi Sinha) goes to Pagalpur. There, Agastya finds out that the dam constructed on the river (which is the only water source of the village) has prevented Pagalpur from getting any water. He seeks help from two neighbouring villages but nobody helps him saying that the village does not belong to their state. As he doesn’t get help from anywhere, Agastya finally turns to Crop Circle to solve the problem.

The director has picked actors aptly and they fit their characters perfectly. They are successful in tickling your funny bone though the plot is not so strong where you can predict what happens next rather easily.

Asrani is in the role of teacher and the dialect he uses is very funny. Jariwala as cock-eyed old man is notable character. The language Talpade uses is funny and will definitely be a hit with children. Meanwhile, Kumar as usual has performed his role as a lifesaver confidently. Sinha and Lamba are just eye-candies and don’t have much to do.

The songs flow according to the tone of the movie where the background music is also pleasant. Meanwhile the overall look of Pagalpur seems like a place from fairytales. And while watching the movie you will get a feel of some colourful festival going on with lots of activities happening there.
